Are the Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom murders a hoax?
I heard that in January 2007, two college students named Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom were murdered in Knoxville. Supposedly, the murderers cut off the young man’s penis and the young woman’s breast while the victims were still alive, and tortured them in other ghastly ways before killing them.
I have checked the papers, including the New York Times and the Washington Post, and checked web news sites such as FOX News and MSNBC.com, and I can’t find a single reference to it. Not a word!
The people I heard about this murder from are right-wingers who claim that the media covered up this case because the victims were white and the perpetrators were black. I’d believe this was possible, however I really can’t find a single reference to this case in the major media.

No, the Christian and Newsom murders are not a hoax. I live in Knoxville, our Knoxville News Sentinel has all the information you’re going to find about it. The torture details that you’re seeing on the blogs haven’t been released by any media source, except for a very small sentence buried in one News Sentinel report about Channon’s remains being brought out of the home in “five garbage bags.” That alludes to the torture, and the words of one of the detectives that “they did some nasty things to this young lady,” also alludes to it, but as I said, the exact details of the torture haven’t been released.
